OOTD

23 Nov

It was a very cold day in Liverpool today and so I layered up to stop the chill.

Black jeans are my current fav and this pair were really cheap from Primark, they’re a great fit. These Vans shoes are pretty much the only leopard print you’ll find in my wardrobe as I tend to stay away from this over-done pattern on clothing.
I have had this Zara coat for ages now but it’s such a classic colour and shape that it always fits my outfits. The big H&M is great for shopping days, I’m in love with my grey Zara jumper and the denim shirt adds a little contrast and was from Primark.

Garance Doré for Zara

17 Nov

The New York Times called her ‘the guardian of all style’, she is a photographer, an illustrator, blogger, genius and an idol of mine. In 2011 she illustrated a special edition cover of Elle magazine and I won a copy, I was in love.

IMG_1978.JPG One of my other fashion loves is Zara, I’m constantly getting carried away when presented with such a focused, stylish, sleek store on the high street. So many outfits, so little time!
Put Garance Doré and Zara in the same sentence and you’ve already got my avid attention before I even see the photographs.
I was shopping in Zara Liverpool (buying gold shoes and grey knitwear) when I saw the lovely, fun, ever so stylish pictures of Garance blown up to epic proportions on a wall sized screen.

Black & Gold

16 Nov

These are a few of my favourite things
New and old
All in the theme of
Black & Gold

IMG_1908.JPG
As it is November and we’re all in need of a small boost I thought I’d show you some of the things that are helping to brighten my gloomy days.

IMG_1900.JPGNew shoes are always guaranteed to bring a smile to my face, this lovely pair from Zara were £39.99 and in my opinion are very Christmas party worthy.

IMG_1901.JPG Of course there had to be a perfume in this list and I adore this one by Dolce & Gabbana and if I smell like the beautiful Scarlet Johansson perhaps I’ll find a French man to marry!

IMG_1902.JPG This wedding favour sits with my perfumes and I see it everyday, it’s a lovely reminder of my best friends amazing day and a subtle hint to be like a strong lioness.

IMG_1903.JPG I love this chic little pencil case from H&M, I keep my essential pencils and pens in it for off-the-cuff drawing as its compact enough to fit in my handbag.

IMG_1904.JPG This small ceramic and gold trinket box is where I keep matches for lighting candles, it’s prettier to look at than a match box.

IMG_1905.JPG You may have seen this watch on my OOTD posts because I wear it every day. It’s by Anglo-Swedish partnership Larsson & Jennings and was a gift to myself at the end of a bad year, it’s a very beautiful watch and reminds me that independence is so important, even if you’re in a partnership.

IMG_1906.JPG I’ve had this wrist cuff for years, so long I can’t remember where I bought it. It’s only a costume piece but has a very transformative effect when paired with a simple grey tee or black dress.

IMG_1907.JPG This new tee from H&M is great with high waisted skinny jeans and I love the graphic logo encased in super shiny shimmery gold.

Outfit of the day

11 Nov

I don’t like Mondays, that’s an understatement really but the point is they’re bad! Really bad! I find myself searching, when I should be on my way to work already, for something happy to wear that will make me feel better about the day that marks the beginning of the working week.
So my Monday outfit consisted of a beautifully soft, warm, Zara turtleneck sweater and a New Look pencil skirt with a vibrant floral print.

Worn with black tights and a pair of H&M boots with a chunky heel and tough zip.

I did a cat-eye flick and a pink lip colour, Mac ‘Hip ‘N’ Happy’ lip pencil.

Treasures New & Old

27 Oct

IMG_0790.JPG

A Saturday spent in the countryside in a small town called Ironbridge meant a trip to a second hand book shop. I adore whiling away the time searching for old treasures and this time came home with a couple of great ones.

I can’t wait to start reading Daphne Du Maurier’s Frenchman’s Creek and Hotel Berlin by Vicki Baum.

After returning to Liverpool I had a short look around the shops on Sunday and picked up this lovely, oversized, envelope clutch from Primark for just £3!

With the opening of the newly improved Zara Liverpool I was able to buy a replacement handbag perfume after using one bottle up entirely, this is Zara Rose and costs £7.99 for 50ml. Using this as one of my daily scents means I can save my special fragrances for memorable occasions.

The pencil was a gift from my lovely best friend and has the Sex and the City quote ‘this love stuff is a motherfucker’. My best friend knows that I have the ability to pluck a Sex and the City quote from my mind to fit almost any situation and this is certainly one I see myself using a lot!

Finally I’ve included a bottle of Topshop nail varnish in ‘Middle Child’, my sister gave me this in my birthday. I am the middle of three girls so it’s perfect and I just love the amazing colour!

Colour Blocked

23 Oct

It is October. I adore autumn with its orange glow of falling leaves. Streetlights reflected yellow in the drops of rain forming puddles on the pavements. Cheeks rose pink in the colder air. The delicious chocolate coloured liquid of a warming coffee.

Floral prints seem garish and bright colours almost clash with the seasons natural hue. What on earth is a fashionista to do?

Think French.

I love experimenting and having fun with colours, sometimes I have my very own colour-blocking weeks in the office. No prints or patterns just bold against bright and I love it but, it doesn’t feel right for now.

I want to sit at the back of the bus in moody black and have all the other commuters avoid me. I want to sip my red wine in grey cashmere and talk about current affairs with a lover. I don’t want to hide behind a wall of somber tones, rather I want people to think me mysterious. I hear them whispering ‘Is she a poet?’ ‘No, perhaps an artist?’ ‘No no my friend, I think she may be French!’.

Dictionary Definition from Michi Girl

20 Oct

There was a small (not small) break in communication there, not to make excuses but life has been a little hectic recently so the blog took a hit I’m afraid. Hopefully I’m back to business as usual now, I missed writing and sharing with you so much.

Since the last post I’ve moved home, started a degree, developed an Instagram obsession/illness and done quite a bit of shopping with my larger disposable income (no more mortgage to pay now I’m living with my parents).

The time has come to collect my thoughts and try to get some savings in the bank for future adventures, but what do I do to avoid buying things I don’t really need? I blouse.

IMG_0437.JPG

I’m not sure how long my blousing will last, the reopening of Zara Liverpool has already seen me getting my bank card out of my purse once and my winter coat obsession is calling for a vintage shearling number… Hmm just blousing for now.
