Saint Laurent Paris

Hedi Slimane has re-branded Yves Saint Laurent and this provocative, sensual and subtly hedonistic ad-campaign is so full of mystery and intrigue it makes me want to wear black and step inside the images.

The new name is a nod to the original branding of the fashion house and Hedi Slimane’s new Ready to Wear Spring/Summer 2013 line also paid homage to the late Yves Saint Laurent’s 1966 ‘Le Smoking’, the tuxedo for women.

I love the original ‘Le Smoking’ styling and the empowering air of masculinity… a far cry from fifties full skirts and truly radical at the time.

Then when Helmut Newton photographed ‘Le Smoking’ in 1977 it must have been virtually impossible to resist wanting to be that strong woman stood in the shadows of a Paris backstreet.

Androgynous styling for women always makes me smile, after all we are pretty good at wearing those super-sharp trousers and we get to wear ours with killer heels.
